Frequently Asked Questions
Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of medical conditions. It focuses on the integration of the musculoskeletal system with other body systems and the influence that impaired function of each has on the other. It also seeks to empower patients in assisting their recovery to good health.
As with any usual clinic-based osteopathy appointment, we can discuss your health history, perform examination, discuss my diagnosis and proceed with treatment and management, if appropriate. We will bring a portable therapy table to your house and will set it up in a suitable space measuring about 2 metres squared.
Osteopaths treat musculoskeletal conditions which can often be presenting as back, neck or head pain. We also treat injuries that result in pain and loss of function from joints around the body, commonly in the shoulders, arms or legs.
Your first session includes a full consultation where we discuss your medical history and symptoms. This is followed by a physical examination and, if appropriate, treatment. We will discuss the expected time to recovery and how to best minimise this and to prevent future recurrence of the issue. Hands-on treatment can include joint mobilisation, massage and stretching techniques.
It is best to wear loose, comfortable clothing such as shorts and a t-shirt. This allows for easier movement during examination and treatment.
Yes, it is absolutely fine to have a chaperone for the appointment provided you are comfortable with them being present while we discuss your personal health.
At the moment we cover the Merchant City area of Glasgow as illustrated on the map above. If you are unsure if your location is covered, please get in touch.
Payments can be made at the end of each session. Card or cash payments are accepted.
Please provide 24 hours notice of any cancellation. Otherwise the appointment charge may still be incurred.
